For the Love of Cats!!

When Purr Life Cat Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina, opened its second location in Winston-Salem, I was asked to create a mural on one of the walls, as well as a painting for the coffee station. Of course, I accepted with excitement!!

For the mural, the owner, Michele, showed me the wall she had picked out and explained she was hoping for something with a whimsical essence—maybe with some pretty fish, and of course, the main focus would be cats. I made a little mock-up on my iPad and sent it over to her. I also pointed out that I snuck in my birds. She approved! So I began the process.

I started with the background. Once that dried, I sketched on the kitty cat scene. I worked on it one section at a time, and the process took about a week.

Later, when I was asked to do the kitty coffee painting, Michele said I could do anything I wanted as long as it was cat-and-coffee-related. If anyone knows Michele or has been to the resort in Greensboro, you might be familiar with the cats that call Purr Life home.

Michele is not just a business owner—she works tirelessly to help foster cats. She takes care of as many bottle babies as she can and has always gone above and beyond to help as many cats as possible. Many foster cats have ended up calling Purr Life Cat Resort their home, where they are cared for and loved daily alongside the visiting boarders.

Each of these cats has their own personality and brings a unique charm to the resort. They completely stole my heart — so when it came time to create the cat coffee painting, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I chose Michele’s resident cats, the ones she’s lovingly taken in and cared for, as the inspiration for the piece. It felt only right to feature the real stars of Purr Life in the artwork — the cats who make the space feel so full of warmth, playfulness, and love.
