Clean Water + Less Plastic
At the end of this you will find an affiliate link, and while kick backs are great, this is really important to me. If I can get just one person who buys plastic water bottles to switch I will be so happy! I have always struggled with using less plastic and trusting tap water. I also struggle with trying to take in too much information and getting myself stressed out. I’ve tried different water filters and different reusable drinking cups. Constantly having to change the filters becomes expensive and wastes more plastic. I also wonder what is actually getting filtered out. I used to use a water filter system for me and the birds that became unavailable. I began using plastic water bottles again. I was drinking tap water as well. I started asking everyone carrying re-usable water bottles what kind of filter they use at home. It was alarming and upsetting at the amount of people who told me they just dump plastic water bottles into their trendy re-usable drink ware. LOL WHAT?? My roommate and I received a notice from the city that there was possibly lead in our pipes or other unknown materials. Great! We never received any further information. We are just left wondering, so what do we do now? is anything being done? We have no idea.
My roommate and I had discussion about the BOROUX Legacy™ Water Filter System. We agreed the 3 gallon system would be sufficient for the 2 of us, the birds and the cats. For us it was a little pricey, but we did the math, and since there is a Lifetime Warranty on the Stainless Steel Chambers and we opted to purchase 4 foundation filters, that will provide us with up to 24,000 gallons of clean water. I am not going to math, but according to google, 24,000 gallons of water is equivalent to approximately 181,822 standard plastic water bottles. This filter uses gravity so we do not need to rely on electricity. We are always budgeting so I did not but any of the accessories. I did want to buy the fluoride filters but they were not yet available. Good news however! They are available now so I will likely just go ahead and but them today when I am done righting this! The BOROUX Proactive Fluoride Filter does not contain activated alumina. These filters do need to be replaced more often than the foundation filters, but I personally - do not want fluoride in my water.
I will say this often, I am not perfect. I make mistakes. I use plastic all the time, sometimes it is necessary, especially when it comes to medical products and creating protective barriers in tattooing. I know that today things can be overwhelming, it is easier to just not think about it. But when you have time and if you are interested I urge you to click the link below and check out the information the website provides! I also encourage you to share it with other.
I have struggled with drinking enough water, and Coach Izz had suggested drinking from a straw would help. We all know paper straws are trash. I do get grossed out by reusable straws, but I have been finding this stainless steel straw super easy to keep clean. I got this cute reusable cup with stainless steel straw at Marshalls for $7.99. These past few months since I have been using my BOROUX and my reusable straw I have been so happy to use less plastic and I have also been drinking more water and staying hydrated!
I use my BOROUX filtered water where I can, in my coffee pot, for my pets, ice cube trays, and even water I boil. I didn’t really look into it much until I received notice that there could be lead in my water, I had always put tap water in my electric tea kettle, I had figured it is being boiled anyway. Turns out boiling water does not remove lead.
The up front costs are a little high in comparison to more common basic pitcher filters. But for me this is worth it because I wanted a more advanced filtration system that removes a wider range of contaminants. I also want something more reliable in the event supply chains are broken and things we rely on become harder to get, I know my foundation filters are going to last those 24,000 gallons.
